§ MR. HAYDENI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether, in cases in which the salaries of Poor Law medical officers in Ireland have been increased since the passing of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, or may be increased in the future, the whole of the increase is to be borne out the local rates, or whether, as used to be the case, half is to be borne out of the rates and half out of the Parliamentary grant-in-aid.
§ MR. WYNDHAMUnder Section 6 of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1902, the total amount to he recouped to the guardians of any union in pursuance of Section 58 of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, cannot exceed the amount recouped in the year ended 31st March, 1902. The necessity for the provision was explained by me in the Committee stage of the measure.
