§ MR. T. W. RUSSELL (Tyrone, S.)To ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether in view of the fact that no discussion was permitted in the session of 1903 on the salaries and fees of the Law Officers of the Crown, and having regard to the fact that the amendment to the law regarding the publication of false balance-sheets promised by the Prime Minister on the 19th February, 1903, is indefinitely postponed, he will undertake that full opportunity will be given during the present session of Parliament for discussing the salaries and fees paid to the Law Officers of the Crown amounting to £32,990 7s.
(Answered by MR. A. J. Balfour.)In view of important Estimates which have not yet been before the Committee of Supply, I can give no pledge to put down the Vote mentioned by the hon. Member. I may remind him that the False Statements (Companies) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 25th February of this year in pursuance of the undertaking given by the Government. It is, however, evident from the Notices on the Paper that the Bill cannot be regarded as uncontroversial.
