HC Deb 11 July 1904 vol 137 c1189
SIR WALTER FOSTER (Derbyshire, Ilkeston)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that counter clerks stationed at the chief office, London, who commence duty at 6 a.m. and 6.45 a.m. are compelled to take their meal reliefs at 10 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.; that they are prevented by the rules from leaving the building to obtain food, although the official refreshment branch is not open during these hours; and, if so, whether he will inquire into the subject with a view to making an alteration in the meal reliefs.

(Answered by Lord Stanley.)The arrangement to which the hon. Member refers was made at the request of the men themselves. A few days ago they asked for an alteration, and I find that their wishes have already been met. It would therefore appear that the information supplied to the hon. Member, and on which he based his Question, conveyed an entirely erroneous impression.
