HC Deb 06 July 1904 vol 137 c772
MR. SCOTT-MONTAGU (Hampshire, New Forest)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can now give the number of accidents caused by motor-cars and by horses and horse-drawn vehicles in the year ended 31st May last.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Akers-Douglas.) The figures for the Metropolitan Police District are given in the table below. It is to be noted that in the absence of information as to the total numbers of horses or of the various kinds of vehicles in use, there is no basis for a comparison between the figures. It is not practicable to give similar figures for the rest of the country outside the Metropolitan Police District.

Total number of accidents known to the police to have been due to the under-mentioned causes within the Metropolitan Police District during the year ended the 31st May, 1904.
