§ * MR. DELANY (Queen's County, Ossory)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state by whom a gun, the property of Mr. Peter Dowling, Straboe, was given into the possession of the police at Maryborough; and whether the gun has been returned to the owner.
§ MR. WYNDHAMThe gun was handed to the police by the owner of the property on which it was found. On the 16th June† I stated I had been informed that the gun had been identified by Mr. Dowling as belonging to him; that he had undertaken to make a declaration to this effect, and that the weapon was taken out of his possession without his knowledge or approval; and that when this declaration had been made it would be restored to him. He has not yet made the declaration, however, and has informed the police he is not now sure that the gun is his.

§ MR. WYNDHAMI confess I cannot fathom the mystery of the gun. I hope it will get back to the right man.
