HC Deb 29 February 1904 vol 130 cc1245-6
MR. JOHN O'DONNELL (Mayo, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that Mr. Allen Bell, R.M., in presiding at the Ballinrobe Petty Sessions a few days ago, declared that the evidence of two policemen who had preferred a charge against a publican, named Faby, under the Licensing Acts was untrue, and after personally investigating the case dismissed it on the merits; and will he state whether the resident magistrate reported this case to the Attorney-General with a view to a prosecution for perjury; and, if not, will he state what steps he proposes to take in view of his conduct.

MR. WYNDHAM

The papers in the case have been laid before the Attorney-General, who is considering the matter. A decision will be come to by Government as soon as some further information, which has been called for, is forthcoming.
