HC Deb 17 February 1904 vol 130 c23
MR. MACVEAGH

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can state with what object and by what authority the permanent staff of the Fifth Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles, were engaged as game-beaters at Finnebrogue on 17th November and 19th January, and at Seaforde on 8th December and 5th January; and whether any, and if so what, remuneration was paid.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. ARNOLD-FORSTER,) Belfast, W.

I am not aware of these incidents, and I am not prepared to interfere with the discretion of the local military authorities in the matter.
