HC Deb 12 August 1904 vol 140 cc495-6

Resolution reported; That it is expedient to authorise the payment, out of moneys to be provided by Parliament, of certain expenses incurred by the Fishery Board for Scotland under any Act of the present session to regulate Whale Fisheries in Scotland."

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That this House doth agree with the Committee in the said Resolution."

MR. GIBSON BOWLES (Lynn Regis)

said he trusted that this Bill would not be proceeded with. He had several arguments to urge against it, but he would content himself with one. This measure affected many large interests, more especially some large firms in Leith and other parts of Scotland. The measure was brought in quite late in the session, and he submitted that it would not be fair to press it. in view of the large interests involved, at this period of the session.

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Mr. A. GRAHAM MURRAY,) Buteshire

said he was sorry that the hon. Member had taken up that position. He would not press the Resolution.

Mr. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

appealed to the hon. Member to withdraw his opposition.

Motion, by leave, withdrawn.
