HC Deb 12 August 1904 vol 140 cc404-5
MR. FREDERICK WILSON (Norfolk, Mid.)

To ask the hon. Member for North Huntingdonshire, as representing the Board of Agriculture, if he will strengthen the advisors to the Board of Agriculture for the county of Norfolk by appointing direct representatives of the smaller farmers, who form the majority of tenants in the county; and, further, if it is intended to give the 33,000 labourers in the county any direct representation on the Advisory Board.

(Answered by Mr. Ailwyn Fellowes.) The hon. Member is misinformed in thinking that an Advisory Board has been appointed to give advice to the Board of Agriculture. He refers, I think, to the scheme for agricultural correspondents which has recently been inaugurated by my noble friend. The gentlemen appointed under it, whose duty will be to give information to the Board on local agricultural subjects, were selected with great care by a Departmental Committee from nominations put forward by local authorities as well as by agricultural bodies. My noble friend will, however, be glad to consider any suggestions which might help the better to fulfil the purposes for which the scheme was formed.
