HC Deb 04 August 1904 vol 139 cc958-9
MR. CHARLES MCARTHUR (Liverpool, Exchange)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that, in the new edition of the Book of Common Prayer, alterations have been made in the punctuation of the Annexed Book which materially affect the interpretation of the text of that document in some important particulars, especially as regards the definition of a Sacrament in the Catechism and the rendering of the Ornaments Rubric; also whether he is aware that the Act of Uniformity has been omitted from the smaller issues of the same edition; and what action, if any, he proposes to take in view of these irregularities.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Akers-Douglas.) As far as I can see, this Question does not raise any matter not dealt with in the series of Questions which were put by my lion. friend and answered by me in the autumn on of 1902, and which led to the Return on the subject issued in March, 1903. I am afraid that I have nothing to add, but I may perhaps refer specially to the Answer which I gave on the 28th October, 1902.†
