HC Deb 03 August 1904 vol 139 c709
MR. WEIR

To ask the Secretary for Scotland, seeing that the steam trawler "Goldseeker" has been placed at the disposal of the Fishery Board for Scotland to assist in the International North Sea Investigations, will he explain why H.M.S. "Jackal" was detailed by the Board for that duty, especially having regard to the fact that the "Jackal" was lent to the Board for the purpose of protecting the interests of line fishermen from the depredations of illegal trawling off the coasts of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

(Answered by Mr. A. Graham Murray.) The "Jackal" has been specially engaged on certain occasions in the International North Sea Investigations with the consent of the Admiralty at the request of the Fishery Board. This request has been made because the particular work in question could hardly have been performed without the assistance of a vessel possessing the power and equipment of the "Jackal."
