HC Deb 01 August 1904 vol 139 cc274-5
MR. WILLIAM McKILLOP (Sligo, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Lord-Lieutenant has received a petition praying for the construction of a line of railway in the district of Tireragh, county Sligo, between Collooney and Ballina, signed by merchants, landowners, and † See (4) Debates, cxxxviii., 1056. representatives of public bodies in Sligo and Mayo; and, if so, whether, seeing that the ratepayers of Tireragh have offered to give a guarantee, and that nothing has been hitherto done by the Government to assist in developing this district, he can hold out any hope that effect will be given to the prayer of the petitioners.

MR. WYNDHAM

The petition has been received. There are no public funds available out of which to contribute towards the cost of construction of the proposed line of railway.
