HC Deb 29 April 1904 vol 134 c14
SIR THOMASDEWAR (Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the number of aliens at present undergoing sentences in His Majesty's prisons in the United Kingdom.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Akers-Douglas.) The Prison Commissioners, at my request, made inquiry as to the persons in custody in the prisons of England and Wales on the 23rd instant, and report that so far as they can ascertain the number of aliens, i.e., persons declaring themselves to have been born abroad, was 635.
