SIR WALTER FOSTER (Derbyshire, Ilkeston)To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can estimate the consumption of cigarettes of British manufacture during the last financial year; and whether he can state the amount imported of foreign manufacture in the same period.
(Answered by Mr Austen Chamberlain.) The quantity of foreign manufactured cigarettes imported into the United Kingdom in the financial year 1903–4 was 510,965 lbs. There are no means of estimating the consumption of cigarettes of British manufacture.
