HC Deb 20 April 1904 vol 133 cc682-3
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General whether it is his intention to increase to a great extent the employment of boy copyists in the clerical departments of the Post Office, both in London and the provinces; and whether it is intended to exclude telegraphists from the engineering departmen in order to utilise the services of copyists.

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Lord STANLEY,) Lancashire, Westhoughton

No abnormal increase in the number of boy clerks employed in the Post Office is intended. In regard to the second part of the Question I have nothing to add to the answer which was given to a Question on the same subject by the hon. Member for West Nottingham on the 25th February last except that there is no intention of excluding telegraphists.
