HC Deb 19 April 1904 vol 133 c524
SIR JOHN LENG (Dundee)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether, in cases like that of Al Submarine, the British Navy is entirely dependent on foreign or other salvage companies; whether it is adequately equipped with appliances for lifting sunken or stranded vessels; whether our naval officers are instructed in carrying out salvage operations; and whether there is a naval salvage corps, and who is at the head of it.

* THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. PRETYMAN,) Suffolk, Woodbridge

I think the hon. Member will find all the information asked for in my printed reply to the hon. Member for Chester on the 15th instant.†

SIR JOHN LENG

Is there any naval salvage corps?

* MR. PRETYMAN

No, Sir.
