HC Deb 19 April 1904 vol 133 c534
MR. P. A. M'HUGH (Leitrim, J N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that inconvenience has resulted from the closing of the national school in Dohern, Upper Drumreilly, county Leitrim, and that children in the Dohern district are now obliged to walk about three miles to school; and, if so, will he state what action does the National Board propose to take in connection with this matter.

MR. WYNDHAM

I am informed by the Commissioners that prior to the closing of this school it had been declining for some years in number of pupils, in efficiency, and in suitability of accommodation. In October last the manager stated that it was impossible to continue the school owing to insufficient attendance of children and the exstence of so many other schools in the district. In these circumstances, and having regard to the unsuitable condition of the building, it was closed.
