HC Deb 18 April 1904 vol 133 cc394-5
MR. FIELD

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he will consider the advisability of appointing a Select Committee to consider and report upon the prevailing system of gambling in futures options, and warrants, and its effect upon legitimate speculation and bonâ fide trade, especially with regard to foodstuffs, metals, cotton, and other raw materials.

THE PRIME MINISTER AND FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR,) Manchester, E.

I think I have already stated to the hon. Gentleman and the House that some aspects of this question are being investigated, I understand, by the Commission on Food Supply, and I do not think that without their Report we ought to form any judgment on the broader aspects which the hon. Member raises in his Question.
