I beg to ask the Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will state the total number of elementary school departments in England and Wales under separate head teachers according to the last statistics of the Board of Education, giving the figures for council and voluntary schools separately.

The numbers of elementary school departments in England and Wales for the year 1902–3 are as follows:—In Council Schools, 11,213; Church Schools, 16,351; Wesleyan Schools, 700; Roman Catholic Schools, 1,814: British Schools, 1,470; Total for Voluntary Schools, 20,335; Grand Total, 31,548.
