HC Deb 18 April 1904 vol 133 c361
DR. RUTHERFOORD HARRIS (Camberwell, Dulwich)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that ex-officials of metropolitan boards of guardians in receipt of pensions have been nominated as candidates for election as guardians; and, if so, whether he will take steps so to amend the law as to render it impossible.

(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) I believe there have been cases of the kind referred to. I am not, however, prepared to say that an ex-Poor Law officer in receipt of a pension ought necessarily to be disqualified for being a member of a board of guardians.
