I beg to ask the hon. Member for North Huntingdonshire, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, if he will state what is the total number of persons engaged in the cultivation of the soil in England and Wales.

MR. AILWYN FELLOWES (Huntingdonshire, Ramsey)

The total number of persons, aged ten years and upwards returned in the Summary Tables of the Census of England and Wales for 1901 as engaged in agriculture, was 1,128,604, of whom 1,071,040 were males and 57,564 females.
