HC Deb 14 April 1904 vol 133 cc184-5
MR. CLAUDE HAY (Shoreditch, Hoxton)

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the fact that Second Division clerks, on promotion to the First Division, are not required to pass any further medical examination, he will put assistant clerks who are promoted upon the same footing.

{Answered by Mr. Victor Cavendish.) The Civil Service Commissioners will not in future require a fresh medical examination in the case of the promotion of assistant clerks to the Second Division, provided that there is nothing in the report as to the candidate's health received from the department in which he has been serving, and nothing in the previous medical history of the candidate which renders it desirable that a fresh medical inquiry should be held.
