HC Deb 14 April 1904 vol 133 cc197-8
DR. MACNAMARA

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether, in view of the fact that there was, on 81st December, 1903, in the accounts of the Post Office Savings Bank an excess of liabilities over assets of £10,000,000, the Commissioners for the Reduction of the National Debt have informed the Treasury of the deficiency in order that the amount of such deficiency may be issued out of the Consolidated Fund of the United Kingdom, or out of the growing produce thereof, in accordance with the provisions of 24 and 25 Vic. c. 14, s. 6.

MR. VICTOR CAVENDISH

It is only when the assets of the Savings Banks Fund are insufficient to meet the claims of depositors that the Act requires an issue to be made from the Consolidated Fund. No necessity for such an issue has arisen.
