HC Deb 14 April 1904 vol 133 cc199-200
MR. STUART SAMUEL (Tower Hamlets, Whitechapel)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will say what is the average number of aliens sentenced to terms of imprisonment of over one month in the United Kingdom during the last five years.

* THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. AKERS-DOUGLAS,) Kent, St. Augustine's

I can only refer the hon. Member to the tables which were prepared specially for the Royal Commission on Alien Immigration, showing the alien prisoners (i.e., those who declared themselves to have been born abroad) received during the five years ended March,1903, into prisons in England and Wales. From these it would appear that the yearly average of those sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment was for males 607.2 and for females 54.8, exclusive of averages of 45.4 males and 0.6 females who were sentenced to penal servitude.
