HC Deb 28 May 1903 vol 123 cc130-1
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether there are any extra police remaining in the County Clare; whether any portions of that county remain proclaimed under the Criminal Law and Procedure (Ireland) Act, 1887; and whether the county is not in a perfectly peaceable state at present.

MR. WYNDHAM

There are no extra police at present in Glare. Sections 3 and 4 of the Act of 1887 are in force in the county, and Section 2 is in force in a small portion of the county. A considerable improvement has taken place in the state of the county.

MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of advising the Lord Lieutenant to revoke the Proclamation?

MR. WYNDHAM

I entertain hopes that it may be possible to do so shortly, but I am not prepared to say it can be done at the present moment.
