RUSSELL (Tyrone, S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether he can state the number and amount of advances applied for under the Land Purchase Acts and sanction to which was withheld by the Land Commission on the ground that the security was inadequate.
§ MR. WYNDHAMThe number of applications for advances under the Acts of 1885–1888 which were finally refused on the ground stated was 1,286; the amount applied for was £467,872. Fresh applications were subsequently made in respect of a number of these cases under the Acts of 1891–1896, but no separate record of these has been kept The number of applications finally refused under the latter Acts is 789 for £175,154.
