HC Deb 26 May 1903 vol 122 cc1789-90
MR. HARWOOD (Bolton)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board if he can state how many children are at present housed in the work- houses of England and Wales, omitting those of the Metropolis; and how many of these are under three years of age.

(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) There were, on 1st January last, 18,873 children under sixteen years of age in the workhouses and infirmaries of unions outside London. I am unable to state the number of these children under three years of age.
