HC Deb 14 May 1903 vol 122 cc680-1
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND (Clare, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is in a position to give any information to the House in reference to the ill-treatment of an officer of the 21st Lancers.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. BRODRICK, Surrey, Guildford)

No, Sir, I am not yet in a position to give any information on this subject. An inquiry is being held.

MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether, in view of the statements which have appeared in the Press on this matter, he will say when he will be in a position to give information.

MR. BRODRICK

I really cannot say. The question is being inquired into by the Field Marshal the Commander-in-Chief in Ireland, and until a communication is made to the War Office I will not be in a position to say.

MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

When the right hon. Gentleman receives that communication will he inform me or tell me when to put down another Question?

MR. BRODRICK

When a Question is addressed to me I always endeavour to give the information required. If the hon. Gentleman wishes I will inform him when I am in a position to give information on this matter.
