§ CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will grant a Committee of Inquiry into the alleged grievances of the Customs watchers.
§ THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. ELLIOT,) DurhamHaving regard to the improvements made in the pay and position of Customs watchers in 1900, at a total increased cost of £3,000 per annum, and to the large number of candidates for the post of watcher, I do not consider that any necessity exists, either for further concessions or for a Committee of Inquiry.
