HC Deb 07 May 1903 vol 122 c27
MR. LOUGH (Islington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is now prepared to announce his decision in connection with the representations made to him with regard to discontinuing executions at the Holloway Prison.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. AKERS DOUGLAS,) Kent, St. Augustine's

The matter is one of considerable difficulty, and must be taken in connection with that of executions at Pentonville Prison. I can say at once that I do not see my way to discontinue the latter; but I have still under consideration the question of Holloway. I may perhaps point out that Holloway is exclusively a prison for females; and we may hope that it will be long before another sentence of death upon a woman has to be carried out.
