HC Deb 06 May 1903 vol 121 cc1512-3
CAPTAIN NORTON

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can say when the suggested inquiry into the machinery of the Income Tax, and which inquiry has been demanded for years past, is likely to take place.

* THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. RITCHIE, Croydon)

I am not in a position to make any statement as to when the inquiry into the machinery of the Income Tax will take place, and I would ask the House to have some little patience. As they will understand, I have others to communicate with, and the thing cannot be done in a hurry. But I assure the House that I sincerely desire that it should be done.

MR. WILLIAM REDMOND (Clare, E.)

Will the Committee be appointed this session?

* MR. RITCHIE

Oh, undoubtedly; I hope so.
