HC Deb 30 March 1903 vol 120 cc571-2
MR. JAMES O'CONNOR (Wicklow, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will say whether any of the officers and crew of the "Princess Alexandra" were on leave while that vessel was laid up at Liverpool; if so, how long did the leave last in each individual case; and whether they received wages and allowance while on leave; and, if so, how much of either wages or allowance, or of both.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR,) Leeds Central

I am informed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights that the Acting Commander, the Chief Officer, and the Chief Engineer of the "Princess Alexandra" each got one month's leave while that vessel was laid up at Liverpool, and received their regular rates of pay and victualling allowances. Each member of the crew had a fortnight's leave during February and March while the vessel was laid up, receiving wages and victualling allowances of fourteen shillings and threepence, and twelve shillings and threepence, respectively.
