HC Deb 25 March 1903 vol 120 cc169-70
MR. JAMES O'CONNOR

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the surveyor postmaster of Birmingham recently refused to meet a deputation of postmen on the ground that it included two men from one office, and insisted on the withdrawal of one of these men and the substitution of a man either from Hands worth or Smethwick; and, seeing that the men chosen had been duly elected at a meeting at which both offices were represented, will he state whether this action on the part of the Birmingham postmaster is in accordance with the rules of the Department.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) I am not yet in possession of all the facts in this case. When I have ascertained and considered them I will communicate with the hon. Member.
