§ MR. SEYMOUR ORMSBY-GORE (Lincolnshire, Gainsborough)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any and, if so, what representations have been made to Portugal in respect to the proposed duties to be placed on the import of British machinery.
§ LORD CRANBORNEWhile the late Portuguese Government was in office His Majesty's Minister at Lisbon was instructed to urge that such of the proposed duties as were specially injurious to British trade should be reduced. Sir M. Gosseling has been informed since the change of Ministry that the scheme of the late Government is being carefully examined by the new Minister of Finance.
