HC Deb 18 March 1903 vol 119 cc1092-3
Mr. JOHN WILSON (Durham, Mid)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can say what proportion of the cost of erecting the drill hall situated in the city of Durham was contributed from Government funds; and whether it is in: harmony with the conditions of such grant for the building to be rented for concerts and kinds of amusements.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) No proportion of the cot was contributed from Government funds: the corps has, however, been granted a loan under the Military Lands Acts. There is no objection whatever to the use of a drill hall in the manner alluded to when it is not required for military purposes; moreover, the profits derived from such uses are often utilised to meet the sinking fund charges.
