§ *COLONEL LEGGEI beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he will reconsider the question of regiments of Lancers, Dragoon Guards, and Dragoons retaining the lance for active service and ceasing to carry the sword.
§ MR. BRODRICKThis question has been very thoroughly considered by the military authorities, and it would be impossible for me to reopen the decision come to entirely on military grounds.
§ MAJOR WYNDHAM QUIN (Glamorganshire, S.)was understood to ask if the Order had been issued with the approval of the new Inspector-General of Cavalry.
§ Mr. BRODRICKIt is most unusual to ask in this House as to what special officer has been cognisant of a particular Order; and I may say, in reply to my hon. and gallant friend, that an entirely erroneous impression was produced on the House the other day by a statement to that effect with regard to the Inspector-General of Auxiliary forces. I have not the sightest doubt that the Inspector-General of Cavalry was fully consulted in this matter.
