HC Deb 11 March 1903 vol 119 c373
MR. CATHCART WASON (Orkney and Shetland)

To ask the Postmaster General if the attention of the Government has been directed to the fact that the Island of Westray, Orkney, has been cut off from telegraphic communication for the last week, and if every effort will be made to restore communication at the earliest possible date.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) My attention has been directed to the interruption of the cable between Sanday and Westray, and a cable ship will be employed to repair it as soon as possible. For some weeks past the state of the weather has been such as to make cablerepairing operations very hazardous in those waters.
