§ MR. WHITLEY (Halifax)To ask the Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will state how many schemes, in pursuance of the Education (England and Wales) Act, 1902, have been submitted to the Board of Education for counties, county boroughs, boroughs, and urban districts, and how many have received final approval.
(Answered by Sir William Anson.) No schemes have yet been approved by the Board, since none can be approved until after the period of publication required by section 17 of the Act has elapsed. Out of the sixty-two County Councils in England and Wales, forty-one have submitted draft schemes for the approval of the Board. Of these, twenty-one are now in course of publication. The corresponding figures for the other local authorities are as set out below.
