HC Deb 05 March 1903 vol 118 cc1548-9
MR. HAMMOND (Carlow, W.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been drawn to a resolution recently adopted by the Carlow Rural District Council to the effect that, in the absence of an approved purchase scheme for labourers' cottages and plots, the District Council should be allowed a reduction in their repayment of the loans after the given number of instalments had been paid, in the same way as tenant farmers who purchase under the Land Acts obtain a reduction after ten and fifteen years; and will he endeavour to extend to the repayment of loans by public bodies in Ireland terms similar to those which obtain under the Lands Purchase Acts.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) The proposal in this Question would be a matter for consideration in the event of further legislation dealing with loans to local authorities. I cannot, at present, give an undertaking to introduce such legislation
