HC Deb 04 March 1903 vol 118 c1352
MR. CLAUDE HAY (Shoreditch, Hoxton)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he will state the number of men who have joined the Regular Army from the Militia during the last year; and whether these men are counted as recruits to the Regular Army as well as to the Militia in compiling the present effective land forces of the Crown.

MR. BRODRICK

18,379 Militiamen joined the Regular Army in 1902. They are counted as recruits on entering the Militia, and as recruits on entering the Regular Army; on the latter occasion they are at once struck off the effective strength of the Militia.
