HC Deb 30 June 1903 vol 124 c923
MAJOR SEELY (Isle of Wight)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade how many lightships it is proposed to connect with shore stations by wireless telegraphy, the names of the lightships, and when it is anticipated that the installation will be completed in each case.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. BONAR LAW,) Glasgow, Blackfriars

It is proposed in the first instance to connect with shore stations by wireless telegraphy the following six lightships: the "East Goodwin," the "South Goodwin," the "Gull," the "Tongue," the "Sunk," and the "Cross-Sand." The matter is being pressed forward, but as the terms of the contract for the supply of the apparatus have not been settled, I am not able to say when the installation will be completed.

MAJOR SEELY

May we assume it will be before next winter?

MR. BONAR LAW

It is impossible for me to name a definite time. We are pressing it forward as much as we can, and hope to have it finished by the autumn.
