HC Deb 29 June 1903 vol 124 cc808-9
MR. CAREW (Meath, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state the amount of the loss of emoluments that will accrue to the income tax collectors under the operations of the Irish Land Bill; and whether he is prepared to introduce a scheme for compensation to these officials on the same lines as that adopted in the case of the county cess collectors under the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898.

MR. WYNDHAM

The amount of the loss of emoluments to income tax collectors is not calculable, and their case is not on all fours with that of the county cess collectors. The Government is not aware of any sufficient reason for entertaining the claims of the former officers.
