HC Deb 25 June 1903 vol 124 c557
MR. EDWARD MITCHELL (Fermanagh, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in the case where the owner of an estate is a lunatic and the estate is in Chancery, will the Lord Chancellor have power to sell such an estate to the tenants or to the Land Commission; and, if such power does not already exist under the Land Bill, will he make such arrangements as will enable tenants on such estates to purchase.

MR. WYNDHAM

Under Section 63 of the Lunacy (Ireland) Act, 1871, and Section 62 of the Settled Land Act of 1882, the Lord Chancellor has power to consent to the sale of the land of lunatics so found by inquisition in certain instances. The question of amending the law to some extent, having regard to the provisions of the Land Bill, is under consideration.
