HC Deb 24 July 1903 vol 126 cc234-5
COLONEL LONG (Worcestershire, Evesham)

To ask the Secretary of State for War, the average cost per year of an infantry soldier serving with an ordinary peace regimental depot, and a similar man serving in one of the larger depots of 600 and upwards which were started during the war, taking as basis of cost the same classes of expenditure as were used in calculating the cost of an infantry soldier in a service battalion.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) As I explained † to my hon. friend, the figures already given represented the personal charges of the individual soldier, which are identical whether he is serving with a battalion or a depot.
