To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the amounts received respectively by our colonies from duties on imports in the years 1882, 1892, and 1902, and their population at those periods.

(Answered by Mr. Gerald Balfour.) The information as to revenue from import duties only cannot be supplied at short notice, but the hon. Member will find particulars of the Customs revenue of the various colonies for a period of years in Table 8 of the Colonial Abstract [Cd. 1325–1902]. In some cases a relatively small proportion of this revenue represents receipts from export dues. The figures for 1902 are not yet available.
