§ MR. WEIRI beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, having regard to the fact that the assent of Turkey, the Suzerain Power of Egypt, was not obtained to the Anglo-Egyptian Convention of 19th January, 1899, relative to the Soudan, and that by virtue of Lord Granville's despatch of 3rd January, 1884, the Egyptian Government could not withhold its assent, will he say whether the Convention is valid.
