§ MR. O'DOWDI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Government have applied to the Sligo County Council for the sum of £1,500 to cover the cost of extra police stationed in the southern division of that county during the past two years; and whether, in view of the fact that it was owing to the action of the grand jury and against the protests of the County Council this expenditure has been incurred, he will devise some means by which the ratepayers may be relieved from the payment of this tax.
§ MR. WYNDHAMThere is no power to relieve the county of the charge in question. The expenditure was not incurred by any action on the part of the grand jury.
