HC Deb 01 July 1903 vol 124 c1026
MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been directed to the operations of the trust controlling the corner in the American cotton market and its effects on English manufacturing districts; whether he will confer with President Roosevelt respecting these operations; whether he would suggest a conference with the various Governments which have considered the subject of future options, with a view to propose the introduction of international legislation to control gambling in food-stuffs and other produce.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. BONAR LAW,) Glasgow, Blackfriars

I have seen newspaper notices with regard to the operations referred to in the first part of the hon. Member's Question. The answer to the two points raised in the second part of the Question is in the negative.
