HC Deb 05 August 1903 vol 126 c1576
MR. JAMES O'CONNOR (Wicklow, W.)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he will explain why an assistant superintendent, first class, who is sixty-four years of age, is at present employed in the Postal Department at Glasgow, and has been allowed to exceed the age limit laid down by the Tweed-mouth Committee, by four years; will he say whether he now- contemplates allowing him to retire from the Service; and, if so, on what date.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) The Question appears to be asked under a misapprehension. as the age for compulsory retirement is fixed by Order in Council at sixty-five and not sixty. The Tweedmouth Committee made no recommendation on the subject.
