HC Deb 29 April 1903 vol 121 cc782-3
MR. RUNCIMAN (Dewsbury)

To ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether the Admiralty were consulted as to the route to be taken by the Pacific Cable; and, if so, whether they reported that the cable would be less exposed to risk in time of war if landed at Fanning Island than if landed at the Sandwich Islands.

(Answered by Mr. Arnold-Forster.) The Admiralty were not directly consulted as to the route to be taken by the Pacific Cable, although they furnished information at various times on points of detail, and gave assistance in the matter of surveys.
